audio!

i found THE PERFECT song for the video and i really think it helps the timing. without audio, it seemed really slow in the beginning, but that's kind of what i was going for.

things that might change:
1) fade in from black in the beginning
2) replace the opening footage with something that moves a bit more. the wind's not blowing hard enough (or at all)
3) spruce up the end credits with programs used, song title/credits

color test

i plan on adding a lot more photos to the mix and speeding it up. audio is my next big hurdle. my options are either to keep the whole thing at a constant speed, with each photo the same length, or syncing image transition with music.

the rainbow after 2 days

after two days of shooting, this is what i've collected so far. while shooting, i found myself avoiding the color red, because, in my opinion, there was too much red (fully saturated red) in town. also, my favorite images are ones that you kind of get a hint at what the object is. i've decided to include a few photos that are not solid objects because it adds visual interest.

project idea

Project Idea – Color Database

Approximate Length – 2 min.

This project would be based on documenting the colors found in a certain area. The colors would be shown in such a way that the color shift would be almost unnoticeable. The actual object would be ignored, but rather the camera would focus solely on surface color.

CONTENT

I will spend several days scouring College Station/Bryan to find colors and then organize them into the color spectrum. I will use the color hue slide from Photoshop as a guide. Using photographs of solid colors, no transitions will be used to cut to the next image, only fast cuts. Starting with red, I will work my way through the color spectrum. In my first day of shooting, I noticed extremely interesting patterns emerging in the photographs. While I’m trying to avoid man-made patterns, natural patterns in materials will be very interesting to see.

I will not be getting into shades of white, black, or brown.

Even though I am shooting digital photos, I will not be editing any photographs in Photoshop, except for color correcting the temperature. For example, I will correct photos taken in the shade to match photos taken in bright sunlight.

TIMING

Depending on how many photographs I can obtain, each image will remain on the screen for a very short amount of time, ideally less than a second.

AUDIO

Music choice will be something upbeat to keep the piece moving along. It would be nice to find a piece that shifts in mood/pitch as the colors shift. I would like to avoid tones that give off a sinister feeling.

ADDITIONAL

If I get into this project and decide it’s getting monotonous, I could introduce color combinations, patterns, or something else visually entertaining.

I will be composing the piece in such a way that the end result has the ability to loop on itself. For example, if I were to start with red, I’d end with red. This would not mean rewinding through the first half, rather, retrieve enough footage to show each photograph only once. This applies also to the audio.
